Telephone Scam Warning

Telephone Scam Warning

Local Trading Standards officers are warning of a new scam against local residents.

The callers introduce themselves as BT or TPS employees and offer to stop
all nuisance cold calls for a small monthly fee payable by Direct Debit or
Credit Card.  Once they have householders bank details they use them to
transfer any funds to an overseas account.

Moray Council trading standards manager Peter Adamson said: "Our service is
aware of a number of these scams. Our advice is to say "No Thank You" and
hang up if:; you are telephoned out of the blue, you are asked for bank
details or debit card / credit card numbers unless you have made the call
yourself or if you feel pressurised into making a quick decision or
purchase."
