Shopmobility Moray provides a service to people with mobility problems.
Shopmobility is a scheme to lend electric scooters or electric and manual wheelchairs. This helps people who have long or short term limited mobility or visual/hearing difficulties to go shopping and use other facilities in Elgin City. A companion for people who may require assistance whilst shopping is also available.
Shopmobility is open to anyone, of any age, who feels that getting around Elgin is difficult for them. You do not have to be registered disabled to use this scheme. You have to be over 17 to use the electric equipment.
Registering means completing a simple form on your first visit to the office. Two forms of identification with your address on are needed as proof of identity, e.g. driving licence or utility bill.
If a companion is needed, advance booking is required to ensure that a volunteer is available.
We have four-wheeled and three-wheeled scooters for use by our members. Full instruction on their use is given on registration. These are for use only during shop hours.
We also have portable scooters that may be lent out for 2 weeks, or longer to cover holidays, if arrangements are made in advance.
The manual wheelchairs are initially loaned out for 2 weeks at a time, however this can be extended under certain circumstances. We have small wheelchairs that can be used for children and young teenagers.
We also have 3 electric wheelchairs that, like the scooters, are only for use when the shop is open.
There are 3 Zimmer’s in the shop. One is a folding Zimmer and the other two are solid. They can be loaned out on a daily basis or for 2 weeks at a time. If required for longer then just phone us before the return date and make new arrangements.
We have 3 four-wheeled and 4 three-wheeled. These are loaned out on the same basis as wheelchairs and Zimmer's.
We have 3 folding walking sticks that may be taken out for 2 weeks at a time. These can also be taken out for a longer period if required.
